Office order regarding MSc/ MTech Project Dissertation dt 12-12-20201

Research activities at NIMR:

ICMR-National Institute of Malaria Research is a nationally accredited institute for performing cutting-edge research in both field and laboratory oriented topics in basic, applied and operational aspects of malaria and other vector-borne infectious diseases. The thrust areas of research include: Development of genetic and molecular markers for important malaria vectors and parasites; Monitoring and defining the mechanism of insecticide and drug resistance; Target-based drug discovery and setting a large-scale platform for phenotype screening; New diagnostic kits based on parasite proteins; Mosquito physiology, and behaviors, cytotaxonomic studies of major Indian vectors;Field evaluation of drugs, new insecticides, bio-larvicides, insecticide-impregnated bed nets.

The field-oriented research is mainly conducted at the 10 well-established field units located in different malaria-endemic regions of the country with research activities at ICMR-NIMR in New Delhi focused on laboratory-based methods with support from the field units as well as from adjoining areas. Research on all three aspects of malaria (parasites, vectors, and humans) is performed by scientists having a broad range of expertise. Research work on clinical and pharmacological aspects of malaria is also actively performed at ICMR-NIMR. The Institute encompasses research on broad interdisciplinary areas of (1) Biochemistry, (2) Structural Biology (3) Biostatistics, (4) Bioinformatics, (5) Drug discovery&drug resistance (6) Entomology, (7) Epidemiology, (8) Immunology, (9) Microbiology, (10) Molecular Biology, (11) Cell Biology. The research themes are outlined in three broad areas: Parasite-host biology, Vector biology, Epidemiology and Environmental Biology.

    Student training activities at NIMR:

In order to achieve research goals of different projects being undertaken by scientists, ICMR-NIMR supports the active involvement of highly motivated young and aspiring minds of the country to train them at the early stages of their careers (both at masters and doctoral levels). Accordingly, two levels of training programs for students are undertaken at ICMR-NIMR:

    • Doctoral training leading to a Ph.D.degree..ICMR-NIMR is recognized, through an agreement, as an Affiliate Centre of the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR, http://acsir.res.in/), an Institute of National Importance (INI) through an Act of the Parliament, the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research Act, 2011, . The Degrees will be awarded by AcSIR.
    • Training for 3-6 months dissertation/summer training, for fulfilling the master’s degree of a recognized Indian university.
    • Ph.D. Program
